Tooth Pain

Pauline

Recently, I went to the dentist with a tooth ache expecting to need a filling however, it turned out my wisdom tooth had decay and needed to be taken out. One and a half weeks later it took longer than expected to heal and I was doing everything I could:  Painkillers, salt water mouth rinses, eating on the other side of my mouth and also going back to the dentist to see if it had got infected. It was very painful, causing me to experience headaches too.

I went back to the dentist.   The dentist flushed out the wound and said some people just take longer to heal and to be patient. I went to see Dr Brodie for a spinal adjustment, to maintain my health and well being, and just happened to mention my sore tooth.   I was pleasantly surprised to know that he knew about magnetic therapies and this with soft tissue manipulation meant that within a day my mouth and tooth had no pain!

He really is a healer of all parts of the body and helped with a speedy recovery.

Fractured Bones

Merlene

I am an agile, fit person, who happened to fall off my bike and fracture my clavicle (collar bone) in March, 2010. My immediate thought was to get to the hospital so that they could set the bones in place and allow good healing to happen.

At the outpatient department following an x-ray I was told the fracture would heal itself; take analgesics (pain killing tablets); go home. They said I would get another follow up appointment in the mail. I could hardly walk because of the pain and shock let alone argue with their comments. I kept the arm close to my side to reduce the pain and virtually slept for the next 4 days and nights.

After nine days I could shower myself with some difficulty. My right arm was useless for doing anything. I could only walk short distances with a sling on.

Three weeks later there was little improvement and I went back to the hospital and asked for a review. They did another x-ray. The technician said that I needed to see a specialist and that it was normal for a displacement of 1 ½ inches to be surgically pinned. However the doctor refused to do anything further and I was told that the bones would take more time to heal. I told the doctor I was not happy that nothing was aiding the healing process and requested another opinion by an orthopaedic specialist. I was asked if I was in private health insurance and when I said “no”, they told me there was nothing further they could do and I was told to leave. The nurse who also thought surgery was indicated said she would arrange for another appointment.

At 5 weeks I eventually saw the orthopaedic specialist. He said if he had seen me on the day of the fracture he would have done surgery but at this stage it would probably heal just as well if left alone. I was given appointments for physiotherapy. I was told that if I couldn’t put my arm behind my back by six weeks I would need surgery.

After several more weeks of stretching the arm using exercises the physiotherapist had given me to do I still could not lift the arm above my shoulder nor put it behind my back. It was tortuously painful to do anything. I still needed a sling to cope with moving around.

Wee 9 I was reviewed by the doctor again and he said there was no calcification; the bones had separated further. He didn’t think surgery would help. His remarks, “just carry on with physiotherapy”. By this stage I had given up trying to argue with the medical personnel. I wondered what I could do to achieve mobility. Pain and immobility had increased with extra exercises the physio had given me to do. She too was frustrated and said that she didn’t want to treat me any further and told me to go back to the doctors.

I rang my uncle in South Australia, who is a chiropractor, and he told me to find a good chiropractor. I knew a good chiropractor, Dr. Neil Brodie.

I walked into Dr. Brodie’s surgery with a sling in place and after my treatment to my delight it was not needful. I never had to use it for any length of time thereafter. I walked out of the surgery without pain for the first time in 10 weeks. He treated me every couple of days and the relief I received was immense. I had hope that I could move and walk and work again. Simple chores like cutting vegetables, hanging out the washing, drying my body with the fractured arm, vacuuming the floor, pouring a jug of water or driving the car became possible in just a few sessions of chiropractic treatment. Even my knee which had been purple since the accident has turned pink again following adjustments. I can play the piano again too.

By week 11 I can raise my arm almost vertical. I can drive the car with ease. I can walk for two hours with no pain. I can work a seven hour shift with no particular problem. I am so grateful to have my life back on track again. Thank you, Dr. Brodie for your expertise in the healing art. I will continue the recommended treatment plan to achieve optimum health. Chiropractors do make a positive difference to one’s health. They have healing hands.

Neck & Arm Pain

Beverly

Around 8 weeks ago when I came to see Dr. Brodie I was suffering with terrible constant headache, aching and pain right across both shoulders, pain down my left arm and a numb index finger on my left hand. When Dr. Brodie looked at my x-ray he saw that I had a bulging disk in my neck which was caused by a fall I had in April of last year. In this fall I sustained a severely torn rotatoor cuff as well as my neck injury which led to me having shoulder reconstruction. The surgeon suggested that I have a nerve sleeve injection in my neck to see me through until he returned from his holiday in Europe and then he would operate on my neck.

Well needless to say I was mortified and was not happy about neck surgery. By the time the surgeon returned 6 weeks later the pain from my neck had subsided, I had already had my shoulder operation and I had decided not to have surgery on my neck. The surgeon said that the pain would return at some stage and I would need further treatment. Yes the pain returned about 10 weeks ago which is 12 months since my injection. After a weeks worth of physio treatment the pain was not getting any better in fact it was becoming worse daily. I was taking pain relief on a four hourly basis with little relief. I was getting little sleep and was at my wits end. I didn’t know what to do. I had always been against going to a Chiropractor and said that I would never seek treatment from one. My pain was so bad that I decided to give it a shot.

After a week my pain was easing. After 2 weeks I could feel a remarkable difference. I was starting to sleep better and my headache and shoulder pain had eased markedly. My faith in chiropractic treatment has grown and I knew that I had done the correct thing by coming to see Dr. Brodie. It has been 8 weeks now and my pain has all but cleared up. My finger is no longer numb and I have no pain in my arm. I know that with continued Chiropractic adjustments eventually my pain will go away completely. I think the best thing of all is that I now know I don’t have to have surgery. Many thanks to Dr. Brodie; he told me he could fix my problem and he was right.

Michelle

My name is Michelle, I’m a 41 year old patient at Perth Wellness Centre and I’d like to tell you about the great results I’ve had with Chiropractic so far.

I had been suffering from neck pain on and off for the last 6 months. It had recently gotten worse and started giving me constant headaches, very sharp behind one eye. But the worst part was that pain in my arm that had recently started too. It was constantly achy, my arm was always feeling very heavy and I was getting lots of pins and needles. It was affecting my life quite badly in that I was having trouble sleeping and couldn’t get things done at work because of the constant headache.

I had seen a physiotherapist once a few months earlier for the neck pain. It helped for a few days but the pain came back. I had never been to a chiropractor before but after finding Perth Wellness Centre in the Yellow Pages I though I’d give it a go because the pain was so bad.

After my first treatment, straight away I could feel that the sharp pain behind my eye was gone and the pain in my arm was much less. After a few more treatments I was not getting any more headaches and my arm pain was still hardly noticeable. My neck is feeling great and I notice that it has more movement than before. I still felt some minor pain in the arm when I was at work and thought that the way I was holding my mouse was aggravating it. I discussed this with Dr Lenis and she showed me some postural and ergonomic tips. I have changed the way I sit and use my computer at work and my arm no longer bothers me.

Hyperhidrosis (Excessive Sweating)

Janelle

I first visited Dr Brodie at The Perth Wellness Centre in January 2008 through a friends referral. Prior to this I had visited numerous doctors and specialists over the course of 10+ years looking to find answers and cures to the following:

-          Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) (over 15 years)
-          Infected ear (ongoing for 8 years)
-          Underarm rash caused by allergic reaction (on and off for 10 years)
-          Regular headaches and migraines

I was prescribed antibiotics after antibiotics and was told the only cure for excessive sweating was regular botox or surgery, both of which could cause paralysis or heighten the problem.

After regular chiropractic treatment, kinesiology and natural remedies from Dr Brodie, amazingly these 3 problem areas are now under control. I also can’t remember the last time I had a headache or migraine. I feel fantastic within myself, are rarely sick and family have commented how happy and positive I am.

I cannot thank Dr Brodie enough for his treatment over the past 18 months. He will always be my first point of call and his services come highly recommended.
